Coffee Grinder

My husband loves to drink coffee. It does not matter what time of the day it is or what the weather is like outside he enjoys drinking a cup of coffee. His friends have always teased him that is does not even have to be good coffee and he will still drink a second or third cup. Last year for Christmas his brother bought him a coffee grinder and several different kinds of coffee beans. This has created a new obsession for him.

In the past any brand of coffee that happened to be on sale was what was purchased for our home use. I would buy specialty grounds for when we were entertaining. Now that he has the coffee grinder he is trying every variety of coffee beans that he can find. He no longer settles for any cup of coffee. He has been experimenting with how course or fine to grind the beans. He has also started blending beans in the coffee grinder to come up with the perfect flavor. He goes on different internet sites and researches the qualities of different beans based on where they are grown. He has also researched the coffee industry and is getting involved in a fair share marketing program through a local charity organization. This organization insures that the coffee growers get a premium price for their product by educating the grower and providing a language interpreter to help with deal making. This keeps the grower from being taken advantage of by the coffee broker. This organization encourages churches and other non-profit organizations to buy the coffee that they serve directly from the grower. This helps the grower get a better price and it eliminates the middle man so the non profit organization gets a better deal on the coffee. This arrangement works well for all involved.

My husband was discussing this process at a family gathering. His brother cannot believe how his gift of a coffee grinder created such a passionate crusade for my husband. He told me that the funny part of the entire situation is that he had forgotten to get my husband a gift for Christmas and did not realize this until they were packing the gifts in the car to come for the gift opening party. His new wife mentioned that they had received a coffee grinder as a wedding gift and it was still in the box. They quickly wrapped the coffee grinder and gave it to my husband. It amazes me how things have a way of working out. Through this last minute gift a coffee grower in Central America is benefiting by receiving a fair price for his coffee beans through the arrangements that my husband made with our local church.
